TAKING  THINGS  FOR  GRANTED  [ 1 ]

Human beings are so ungrateful to previous generations that whatever was invented or created by them, they soon begin to take for granted. There are many examples. Let us start with radio. That we can instantly hear somebody's voice, delivered from hundreds or thousands of miles away, was a matter of amazement. But very soon, humans became so used to it that it became a matter taken for granted. We forget to appreciate for how many hours sharp minds must have endeavored to make that invention. Same is true of all great achievements of science and technology, e.g., automobiles, aeroplanes, television, calculators, computers, internet and now robots and artificial intelligence.

In the field of human health, there have been tremendous advances. Just a few hundred years ago, many infectious diseases were rampant among societies and many people were succumbing to death routinely. Now fatalities are much less frequent due to the invention of many vaccines. Medical profession has eliminated some of the diseases, such as, smallpox. Polio is on the verge of extinction.

Most of the progress has happened only over the last two to three hundred years. Bravo! Many heartfelt salutations to those who have made this possible!!
